Bio: In 1994, Gary Johnson honestly self-assessed his abilities and decided he was not living up to his potential. He had a great job and a successful career. So why did Gary shock his colleagues by announcing that he was leaving his “good government job” to spend more time with his family? He was not personally fulfilled. Gary was born and raised in Washington, DC, and attended public school. In high school, Gary began to question the advice of his school counselors and advisors who were attempting to guide his future based on test scores and other subjective criteria. Gary was determined to take control of his life and not let other people define his success.
He graduated high school and attended the University of District of Columbia full-time. One year later Gary attended college during the day while he worked full time in the evening. Eleven years later, Gary graduated with a BS degree in Organizational Management from Columbia Union College. He also attended Antioch University School of Law, where he studied in the Master of Legal Science program. Gary also served as an Adjunct Professor at Gallaudet University (Washington, DC) and Prince George’s Community College (Largo, MD).
As a keynote speaker, corporate trainer, and motivational speaker Gary Johnson has inspired and entertained thousands of people with his powerful storytelling ability. At the age of 23, Gary was assigned to The White House where he worked for three Assistants to the President for National Security Affairs. Throughout his 30+-year professional working career, Gary worked 18 years for the federal government before launching his own businesses full-time. Gary learned how to use his power to define his success. The same personal power that we all have, but don’t always know how to use.
Gary conceived the idea to develop a website to balance the image of Black Men in 1995 while flying from Las Vegas back home to Washington, DC the day of the Million Man March. Gary saw the Internet as “the great equalizer” allowing him to provide a forum and a voice to the voiceless when it came to issues of interest to black men. He had plenty of ideas and content and after 6 years he officially launched the site in January 2001.
Today, Black Men In America.com is ranked as one of the top online black magazines and publications on the Internet. MasterChef Gary.com features Gary’s premium organic seasoning and FREE recipes. Gary Johnson Media is Gary’s public relations and strategy company to help improve and raise their public profile.
As a management trainer, facilitator, and consultant, Gary either independently or in collaboration with other HR firms, provided training, consulting, and facilitation services to numerous Fortune 500 companies, Wall St. firms, and government organizations.
In 2019, Gary launched an online premium organic seasoning business (www.MasterChefGary.com) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, Gary pivoted professionally and began doing public relations and launched two podcasts (Calculations Talk Show and The Thought Brothers), a one-on-one interview show and a show with three rotating hosts who lead discussions on sports, politics, and current events. In 2024, now living in Central Florida, Gary launched Gary Johnson Media and serves as a social media consultant and influencer serving as a media strategist for clients such as the Justice For Black Farmers group.
